We are fast approaching August, well known as a vacation month for many farmers. As wheat harvest and in crop herbicide/fungicide applications wrap up there is nothing left to do but kick back on a beach and wait for the soybeans to ripen. Well… sort of anyway. This August, we have one more job...
Last fall’s wheat planting season was late, causing some wheat to be planted in marginal conditions. Further, an early N season came upon us this spring as we were hit with several weeks of wet conditions, leaving compaction areas throughout the fields.
As planting rolls on, the next job that requires our attention is our T3 fungicide application in wheat. The main reason for a T3 application is to protect against Fusarium Head Blight, a grain disease that reduces yield through light test weights and increases vomitoxin levels in infected grain.
